One of the best roads in the world has to be Utah´s scenic byway number 12. The road is 200km long and runs through Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef National Park, Kodachrome Basin, Escalante Petrified Forest, Anasazi Museum State Park, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and the 1.8-million-acre Dixie National Forest. Which all of them is unique in their own way. Who knew there were so many protected areas just on this small stretch of road? That´s amazing man!
Us road trip
Håkan and I drove the road when we did our US-road trip, and it was so damn sweet! We didn´t do all of the national parks on the way, since we had limited time (spent 5 weeks in the wild west). We only went for Bryce, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Capitol Reef, Glen canyon and Dixie. But that is awesome enough! If you are into colors, as the undersigned, you are going to love this road! It has everything you could imagine from an us road trip: mile-long deserts, red rocks, dead tree, the Colorado river and cute picturesque cities to visit.
On the road again!
Scenic Byway 12 takes you through memorable landscapes, like the remains of ancient sea beds and to one of the world’s highest alpine forest, and also mountains that has the shape of castles! Both good and evil ones! The surroundings doesn´t miss out on any of the colors that we know and love. It´s like an artists palette! And the history and culture of the area blend together, making Scenic Byway 12 a journey like no other. It feels like the wild west is supposed to feel!
We even where lucky enough to encounter some Pronghorn deer outside of Bryce canyon. Those animals are magnificent! Truly beautiful! Unfortunately they were to fast for me to get a greater photo than this below, but I´m just happy to have seen them in real life…
Do I love this road? Obviously… Do I recommend others to go? Damn right I am! Will I give it a 5 out of 5 stars? Well…. duh! So here it is!
Have a great road trip you!
