Bromo-Tengger-Semeru Part II

As I mentioned in this blog post, we climbed Mount Batok while on the biggest island of Indonesia, which is Java. The mountain lies within the massive national park of Bromo-Tengger-Semeru. And after we climbed Mount Batok, we wanted to climb up to the most famous volcano in the area as well: Mount Bromo.

The Bromo

Bromo is an active volcano and is always spitting out a great amount of smoke. Being on the rim of it, hearing, and feeling, that roar, makes you feel really small on this beautiful planet of ours. People have actually died from flying rocks here. Even though it´s not that big a risk to get killed. The Indonesian government always has a watching eye on the Bromo.

Great looking volcano!

Being on top of an active volcano

The hike up doesn´t take more than approximately 45 minutes. And it´s just so freaking cool! I´ve never been this close to a potentially deadly volcano before so this was a once in a lifetime-experiencebfor me! Even the view, looking away from these weirdly shaped mountains is awesome! I could kill for view like that.

Before we headed down again, the volcano got crazy, it started to rumble harder and faster, and the amount of smoke doubled in a couple of minutes. This was the first time spent there, when I actually was thinking about how idiotic it is to be standing on an active volcano… I could have died? It would still be worth it!

Playing in our sandbox

Afterwards, we went down to play on the sand dunes for a while. There were also two boys playing in the ashes with the help of a moped. They had it all figured out…. Great times! I wish everybody could see this! Well… at least the nice people out there! 😀

Conclusion

Climbing mount Bromo is SO FREAKING COOL! I love all the forces that mother nature is capable of unleashing. I love storms, I love earthquakes, and I love volcanoes! I will give this mountain a solid 5 out of 5 stars! if_star-4_47965if_star-4_47965if_star-4_47965if_star-4_47965if_star-4_47965
